Union square

The heart of Cluj-Napoca is Unirii Square – the zero kilometer. It is one of the oldest medieval squares from the central and eastern European cities, with (neo) Renaissance, Baroque and eclectic palaces. In the middle of the square there is St. Michael’s Gothic church and statue group Matei Corvin. It is the locals favorite spot for spending time with friends in a bohemian atmosphere, wonderful moments at the numerous terraces, pastry shops, bars.

Botanical Garden

The “Alexandru Borza” Botanical Garden in Cluj-Napoca, opened to the public in 1925, is considered to be one of the largest and most beautiful gardens in Southeastern Europe. It stretches over a 14-acre area, and houses an impressive and spectacular collection of plants (11,000 species) brought in from all continents. The Botanical Garden is visited annually by about 150,000 people.

National Theater – Romanian Opera / Orthodox Cathedral

The National Theater in Cluj-Napoca is one of the most valuable architectural monuments of the city. It was erected in the years 1904-1906 on the site of the former wood market of the city, in the current Piata Avram Iancu. Across the street from the Theater you will find the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral, the third largest in Romania, built in 1920 in the Neo-Soviet style.

Cluj Arena

With a capacity of over 30,000 seats, the Arena (UEFA Elite Stadium) was built in 2011 right next to Central Park. In addition to the numerous football games, the city’s biggest sporting or musical events are also held here. For example, last year at Untold Festival, just on the 1st day 70,000 people were in attendance!

You cannot go to Cluj and not visit Cetatuia, a panoramic point, a fortification built during the Habsburg period (in the first part of the XVIIIth century) located on the left bank of the Somes. From the terraces, you can “sip coffee while you have the whole city on your feet” …

Turda Salt Mine

The most visited place in Romania (last year more than 600,000 tourists), Salina Turda is one of the oldest and largest salt mines, exploited during the Romans. Also, called “Paradise under the Earth” has been renovated between 2008-2010, offering tourists a spectacular recreational space with a fun park and SPA center. According to www.businessinsider.com, Salina Turda is number 22 in the top of the most spectacular tourist attractions in the world!

Turda’s Gorges

Natural reserve included on the UNESCO lists, Cheile Turzii forms a protected area for ​​fish, marten, wild boar, fox, rabbits. Concert Lara Fabian (March 29, 2018, Polivalenta Hall)

Transylvania International Film Festival (May 25-June 3, 2018)

TIFF, organized by the Romanian Film Promotion Association, is the first and largest festival dedicated to feature film in Romania. It was founded in 2002, in Cluj-Napoca.

In 2011, TIFF was accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF), being among the top 40 festivals in the world.

Jazz in the Park (July 21-July 2, Central Park in Cluj)

The sixth edition of the Jazz in the Park Festival will take place between June 21 and July 2 in the Central Park in Cluj.

Electric Castle (18-22 July 2018, Baffy Castle, Bontida)

Electric Castle is a music festival taking place in July on the spectacular area of Transylvania, Bánffy Castle near Cluj-Napoca.

The festival is a unique experience that combines music, technology and alternative arts.

It features many genres of music, including rock, indie, hip hop, electronics and reggae, as well as art installations.

Untold (August 2-5, 2018, Cluj Arena)

Untold Festival is the biggest festival of its kind in Romania and one of the biggest in Europe, held over a week in the Cluj Arena stadium.

In 2015, Untold drew attention through a campaign to promote the event called “Pay with Blood,” in which blood donors received free tickets at the festival.

Thus, in July 2015, those who donated blood to the mobile caravan in Herastrau Bucharest Park or the Sangvina Transfusion Center in Cluj-Napoca received tickets at the festival.

The initiative was remarked internationally because the association between Transylvania, Vlad Tepes, vampires and blood donation was a brilliant marketing decision. Untold won the “Best Major European Festival” award in 2015.
